The authorities on Sunday (May 15) deployed a platoon of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Cumilla a month before the city corporation polls scheduled for June 15.
Executive Magistrate Ziaur Rahman is leading the single BGB platoon to prevent any untoward incident leading up to the Cumilla City Corporation (COCC) elections.
In addition, three executive magistrates have already been assigned to supervise code of conduct by candidates in the upcoming elections, said Returning Officer Md Shahedunnabi Chowdhury.
On April 25, the EC announced the polls schedule for the COCC as well as six municipalities and 135 union parishads – to be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The deadline for filing nominations is May 17. Officials will verify the documents on May 19, and aspirants will get until May 26 to pull out from the races. Polls symbols will be allotted to candidates on May 27.
