The main accused in the case filed over the murder of young journalist Mohiuddin Sarkar was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Cumilla.

The deceased was identified as Md Raju, 35, the son of Sadek Miah of Bishnupur village in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila.

The incident took place at Golabari border of Adarsha Sadar upazila in the district in the early hours of Sunday (April 17).

Mohammad Shakib Hossain, Company Commander of RAB-11, CPC-2, confirmed the news.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of terrorists were taking position at Golabari border of Adarsha Sadar upazila, a team of RAB conducted a drive there. Sensing the presence of RAB, the terrorists fired open at the elite force. RAB later fired back in self-defence, leaving one RAB member and one terrorist named Raju injured, Shakib Hossain said.

Both were later rescued and taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Raju dead. The body was kept at the hospital’s morgue.
